Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

We want you to feel free to luxuriate in the experience of the château, take advantage of all this retreat has to offer, and enjoy yourself. Have some wine if it suits you. Debate the three-act structure and the hero’s journey (we are called Elixir, after all) with great fervor. We only ask that you do so respectfully and with kindness.

Writing Time

Designated writing time is 7 AM to Noon. Please respect the processes of your fellow writers during designated writing time. Some folks may want to chat, but others require silence as they write. Check in with those around you if you’re going to be doing something other than writing. Communication, kindness, and respect in all things.

Quiet Hours

Quiet Hours start at 10 PM in all designated sleeping-space areas.

Alcohol Consumption

If you choose to drink, know your limits. Remember that others are sleeping nearby, sharing bathroom facilities and didn’t sign up to be a nurse or chaperone.

Pictures and Privacy
We ask that you respect the privacy and personal space of all Elixir attendees and faculty/staff. Faculty and staff will also be writing during writing time, so please respect their processes as with other attendees and refrain from asking questions/chatting them up during this time. We encourage photos/social media posts about the retreat, but please ask permission before posting photos of attendees, faculty, and staff. Posting recordings of lectures/panel discussions is prohibited.

You must be 21 years of age to attend Elixir Writing Retreats.

No spouses/significant others, children, or pets of attendees will be allowed on site at the château.

Elixir does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, height, weight, physical or mental ability (including HIV status), veteran status, military obligations, or marital status.

Smoking is not permitted inside the château. You may smoke outside the château, but please be courteous of other participants and appropriately dispose of all cigarette butts.

Keep the Château Tidy

Although we’re staying at a château, we’re not royalty. As such, there is no maid service. You are expected to keep both shared and private areas tidy. While we will have someone to help wash dishes after meals, please be sure to clean up after yourself after breakfast and outside mealtimes. And, we hate to sound like your mother, but please keep your feet off the furniture.

If your behavior infringes on the safety or enjoyment of other attendees, either before or during the retreat, the Elixir faculty and/or staff may expel you from the château. No refunds will be given, and Elixir and Angelella Editorial are not responsible for any costs accrued.

ADA COMPLIANCE
The château is, unfortunately, not fully ADA compliant. Additionally, many locations in France are not ADA compliant. Please notify us if you require any form of special assistance and we will make every effort to accommodate you to the best of our ability.
